Individualized instruction allows you to move at your own pace, with the full support of our entire California Flight Center team.
California Flight Center has operated continuously for more than 25 years at the LONG BEACH AIRPORT. We communicate to our customers our interest in being their primary source for the best that general aviation has to offer.
To fulfill this mission, we offer only the highest quality pilot training and a diverse fleet of the most well maintained training and rental aircraft in the US. Our fleet of aircraft features the latest in GPS, glass panel, XM weather, real time traffic information, and safety technology from today’s leading manufacturers. These manufacturers include Diamond Aircraft, Cirrus Design, Cessna, Schweizer, Socata, and American Champion Aircraft. We are in the process of adding Light Sport airplanes to the fleet.
We also operate a full motion Redbird FMX airplane flight simulator that is certified as a Level 3 flight training device by the FAA and a Redbird TD2 Simulator that is certified as an AATD. The simulators are extremely valuable to our customers for instrument training and our CRM courses.
The Motus is also very valuable for twin engine training. California Flight Center School is approved as a Part 141 Flight School by the Federal Aviation Administration. Our approved curriculum includes.
Part 141 and Part 61 courses. We provide tail wheel, spin, advanced upset and aerobatic training courses in our Decathlon aircraft. We are also SEVIS approved for M-1 Visas and a US Veteran’s Administration approved pilot training provider. We can help you choose whether Part 61 or Part 141 training is most valuable for you!
Consistent with these principles, safety and regulatory compliance are our top priorities. As a result, we enjoy a very positive and productive relationship with the Federal Aviation Administration, more commonly known as the FAA. In fact, many of the FAA inspectors in the area rent California Flight Center aircraft for their re-currency training needs.

Student pilot certificate is issued to a pilot in training, and is a pre-requisite for the student to fly alone in the aircraft, or solo. It is usually initially issued by a medical doctor who is also an authorized aviation medical examiner, in conjunction with the student's first medical certificate. The doctor will issue a combination medical and student pilot certificate if the applicant meets the medical standards, and the flight instructor will later endorse the certificate when the student meets various training endorsement requirements (including the requirements for solo flight).
A commercial pilot certificate is identical to your private pilot certificate except that it allows you to fly an airplane and carry passengers and/or cargo for hire.
California Flight Center wants to see you excel in your goal of becoming a commercial pilot. Our experienced staff is the very best and is eager to get you off the ground.
Like the Instrument Rating, a Multi-Engine Rating serves to augment a certificate already earned by the student. As the name implies, a Multi-Engine Rating allows the student to pilot an airplane with more than one engine. With a Multi-Engine Rating your piloting horizons will broaden to include many more powerful aircraft. California Flight Center is ready to go the distance with you step-by-step, on your schedule.
After earning your Private Pilot Certificate, California Flight Center is ready to help you take the next step that fits your dream, on your schedule.
An instrument rating permits you to fly “by instruments,” or without visual references to the ground, horizon, and other landmarks. You will be able to fly through clouds, rain, fog, etc., all of which restrict visibility. This skill is particularly useful when you fly long distances when it is more likely that you will encounter weather systems that limit visibility.
Unlike a Private Pilot Certificate, an Instrument Rating is not a Pilot Certificate, but an augment to the certification the pilot currently holds.
So you’ve earned your Private Pilot Certificate and are well on your way to achieving your dream of becoming a pilot. You may be asking yourself, “What’s next?”
One of the most efficient, rewarding ways to build flight time toward your piloting goals and to give back to the industry is to become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) or a Certified Flight Instructor qualified to give Instrument Rating instruction (CFI-I).
By becoming personally responsible for safety and proficiency of the pilots you train, your own skills will become second nature. Just ask any member of California Flight Center’s expert staff.
By teaching others and passing along the knowledge you have gained, you will truly learn to fly like a pro!
